Beautiful Lily Beaumont and her husband Jack are owners of a genuine Victorian tavern, situated on one of Belfast's last few remaining cobbled streets. They have been married for twenty years and have spent that time madly in love and contented in their own little world with their regular customers.
But one day, Dublin-based developer Vincent Halloran comes to Belfast with big plans for Maple Street. The other traders are keen to sell up and retire, and Jack and Lily know their ivory-tower days are numbered.
As Christmas 2004 approaches, Lily decides to hire four pretty barmaids and two handsome singers, in a final bid to save the tavern. Enter pint-sized man-eater Bridget O'Malley, lazy art student Daisy Hardcastle, neurotic Trudy Valentine and painfully shy Marie Smith. Not to mention the handsome Devaney brothers with their tight leather trousers and acoustic guitars. But is it too little, too late?
